Falasteen is a short, non-commercial experimental film. My usual process involves a much longer process of creating animation, but in this case, I experimented with painterly rendering and editing of sourced photos set to music by Saint Levant and videos of brave Palestinians protesting in dance (dabke) during the “Right of Return Protests” of 2018.
It is impossible to see the injustice of this genocide and not speak up. Equally, I see the resilience of the Palestinian people in their protest and expression of love for their land and life.
Music is an excerpt of Saint Levant's "From Gaza with Love"
Drawings are based on photos of Refaat Alareer, Wael Al-Dahdouh, Khaled Nabhan, Motaz Azaiza, Heba Kamal Abu Nada, Dr. Amira Al-Asouli, Bisan Owda, and Lama Jamous.
